GR 2013 METROPOLITAN HIKING TRAIL
Added to the French national network of long distance footpaths in by the FFRandonné in 2012, the Gran Randonnée 2013 is a 276 km long urban hiking trail situated in the Marseille metropolitan region.
Centered at the Aix TGV train station between Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, the trail is composed of two elements. A western loop circles around the Etang de Barre, connecting the cities of Vitrolle, Marignane, Martigues, Istres, Miramas, and Salon-de-Provence. An eastern loop circles around the Massif de L'Etoile and threads through the cities of Aix-en-Provence, Gardanne, Aubagne, and Marseille.
Concieved of by a group of artist marchers interested in mapping the complex mosiac of urban, suburban, rural and natural geographies that characterize the region, the GR 2013 offers hikers unique transects through the contemporary working landscapes of the Marseille metropolitan area.
