Strings of glass insulators isolate the high voltage lines from the pylon structural tower. Rounded, antenna-like corona rings mounted on the insulators reduce the electrical discharges that would otherwise form at the sharp angles of fittings and connectors. An arc of suspender cables joins the incoming and outgoing lines.
