LIBRARY OF HORIZONS: BOTANICAL SKYLINES
The GR 2013 is both a footpath and departure point for visual pathways into the foreground, mid-region, and background of the surrounding terrain. A visual scan of the botanical characteristics of the most distant background, the horizon, creates a distinctive landscape signature that highlights the ecological variations in the intervening topography between the horizon and the observer.
Type of vegetation, density and spacing, canopy height, age, ratio of deciduous / evergreen and horticultural / wild species all combine to create a linear botanical portrait that reflects both the surrounding cultural landscape and the underlying geological and meteorological factors shaping the unique character of the region.
